Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht - Rising Unveils Main Trailer, Theme Song by FictionJunction
The upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht - Rising movie revealed the main trailer ahead of the August 28, 2026, premiere date. The trailer, which was announced with a countdown on the anime franchise's official channels, showcases a theme song "Kanata" by FictionJunction.
Studio SHAFT is animating the movie with Akiyuki Shinbo as the chief director and Yukihiro Miyamoto as the director. Junichiro Taniguchi is doing the character designs. The Walpurgisnacht - Rising movie was initially slated to debut in 2024, but was pushed to this winter to "improve quality.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica, an original anime project created by the Magica Quartet (Akiyuki Shinbo, Ume Aoki, Gen Urobuchi, and producer Atsuhiro Iwakami), premiered in January 2011 as a TV anime.
The series spawned multiple manga series (adaptations and spin-offs), a novel by Nitroplus, a dedicated magazine, and video games. Two recap movies, Beginnings and Eternal, were released in October 2012. They were followed by a third movie, titled Rebellion, which premiered in October 2013 and featured a new story – a continuation of the TV anime. The movie is a prequel to Walpurgisnacht. The two recap movies have a TV edition that began broadcasting every Sunday this October.
It’s worth noting that the Magia Record spin-off story spawned an anime adaptation (also by studio SHAFT) and a mobile game, Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra.
