Zenless Zone Zero Brings the Largest-Ever Update With Version 2.5

As we prepare to bid farewell to 2025, Hoyoverse brings us a new special program for Zenless Zone Zero's new 2.5 update, "To Be Fuel for the Night," which will be released on December 30, 2025. The update will bring with it the conclusion to Season 2's story, alongside many exciting rewards, a new round of buffs for existing agents, a new multiplayer mode, as well as many optimizations and quality of life upgrades.

With the arrival of this update, Zhao of the Krampus Compliance Authority and upcoming Void Hunter Ye Shunguang will be joining the playable roster as limited S-rank agents. And in celebration of the New Year, many rewards for the proxies are also coming. They include a new free outfit for the agent Jane, a free copy of the new S-rank agent Zhao, and much more.

After her previous encounter with her brother, which forced her to use the force of the Qingming Sword, Ye Shunguang appears to suffer the backlash that comes with it, causing her to lose some of her memories, as is the fate of the keepers of the sword. But with the proxies by her side, Ye Shunguang will be seeking a remedy for the backlash, while uncovering the truths behind the Creator, as well as the hidden dangers brewing within the Hollow's depths, as a flower that only grows in the hollow starts blooming in Failume heights, a foreboding sign signalling the expansion of the Lemnian Hollow.

Ye Shunguang, the young senior disciple of Yunkui Summit, and the second Void Hunter to join the playable character roster, will have her own unique Physical type attribute called Honed Edge, and will be the first dual-form agent in Zenless Zone Zero. During combat, Ye Shunguang enters the Enlightened Mind state, allowing her to transform into her white-haired version, activating her ether veil and increasing her combat power greatly.

To enter the Enlightened Mind state, Ye Shunguang needs to accumulate Qingming Sword Force, which can be done by either using certain skills to attack enemies while not in the Enlightened Mind state, or by having teammates activate an Ether Veil while a Support or a Defense character is in the party. When Qingming Sword Force reaches 6 points, holding down the basic attack, or swapping to her while she's off the field, will allow Ye Shunguang to unleash the Enlightened Mind state.

Furthermore, Ye Shunguang can also enter this empowered state by activating her Ultimate with max decibels. While in the Enlightened Mind, Ye Shunguang can use her basic attacks to consume the Qingming Sword Force points to deal damage, or she can use her Ex Special to consume all remaining points to deal a lot of damage instantly. After expending all Qingming Sword Force, holding Ex Special or pressing Ultimate will land a finishing move and exit the Enlightened Mind state, using the Ultimate while in this state will not consume any Decibels, but will also play a different stunning animation for her finisher move.

Alongside Ye Shunguang, Dailyn and Banyue's senior and the legend of Krampus herself Zhao will also be joining as a limited S-Rank Ice Defense agent, wielding an oversized greatsword that dwarfs her small stature to beat down her enemies. When on-field characters deal damage or when she uses certain abilities, she will accumulate Frostbite. Switching to her while the Frostbite gauge is full will activate an entry skill that deals damage to the enemies and activate her Ether Veil. While it's active, the Ether Veil will provide various buffs to the party. When she triggers the Ether Veil, she'll be able to activate a quick assist, and if she's swapped off, she'll automatically chain her basic attack to continue dealing damage while off-field. Zhao will be given as a free agent and will both be a great universal support for many Agents, as well as a great unit to pair with Ye Shunguang who appreciates a teammate that can activate Ether Veil.

Zhao will not be the only adorable companion making their debut, as the new S-Rank Bangboo Spout will make its appearance. The little sidekick will fight alongside the proxies by raining down on the enemies with volleys of flying swords, copying his master Ye Shunguang's fighting style to assist her in battle.

Ye Shunguang and Zhao will both be available on the first day of the 2.5 version and their search signal will be available through the end of the update. Alongside them, a new special banner that includes the rerunning characters Soldier-0 Anby, Alice, and Astra Yao, will be arriving in the second half of the update. The Proxies can select any of these three agents, and the first S-Rank Agent obtained from this banner is guaranteed to be the selected rate-up Agent, and the first 10-Signal Searches will receive a 20% discount.

The Ye Shunguang and Zhao are not the only Agents to be excited for, as with the new version Soldier 11, Grace, and Burnice will be receiving special updates that will improve their combat performance moving forward. Furthermore, the aforementioned Agents alongside Soldier-o Anby and Ellen can be further enhanced through the new Potential Vision enhancement system, which will allow the Proxies to spend a new currency obtained for completing the Ridu Weekly Bingo to obtain these upgrades unlocking even bigger potential in combat.

These are not the only benefits the Proxies will be seeing in the new Version, as players will be able to obtain a new skin for the S-Rank Agent Jane for free. Ye Shunguang will also be receiving the casual outfit the Proxies became familiar with during the previous update's events as a paid reward. Additionally, to celebrate Zenless Zone Zero winning the Grand Award at PlayStation® Partner Awards 2025, Proxies can claim 1,000 Polychromes from their mail as a token of appreciation from Hoyoverse to the proxies for their support alongside the usual new update rewards from daily log in.

Another set of changes include an update to Shiyu Defense, which had the number of critical nodes reduced from seven to four, with a new fifth node that offers a new challenge, this change will also coincide with an overall increase in total rewards that are obtained from this game mode. Additionally, many quality of life improvements are coming which include a new navigation function that allows you to access shops faster, the ability to automatically dismantle unwanted disk drives based on custom conditions, more optimizations for the Suibian Temple management, and much more.
