Welcome Squad of Misfits in Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.2
Following a laid-back vacation for its proxies in the summer-themed 2.1 update, HoYoverse returned with a new special program for its new update for the Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.2. "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night," which will be released on September 4, 2025. The update will feature new content, including a new story quest, a new event, and the return of Obol Squad with two new S-rank agents joining the team.
Version 2.2 continues the story where the previous update's story chapter left off, with the situation in the Waifei Peninsula remaining perilous as conflicts brew between the factions within it. Obol Squad deploys to continue where they left off in their fight against the threat of the Exaltists that remain in the area and will be enlisting the aid of Phaethon in their mission. Additionally, after the main quest, a new quest will be available that will allow proxies to uncover the mysteries surrounding Seed's past.
Two new playable S-rank agents from Obol Squad will be joining the cast with the new version. First is Seed, the electric attack agent is a young genius mech engineer who arrives as a package with the mech soldier Seed Sr. Seed wants to be paired with a second Attack specialty agent, who will be called the Vanguard. The Vanguard will work with Seed to grant both of them huge Attack and Crit Dmg boosts, when the buffs are active on both characters, this allows Seed to further boosting their damage. Additionally, Seed can summon Seed Sr to deliver a deadly attack, which can be fueled with the energy resource Steel Charge. When a sufficient amount of it is consumed, Seed Sr can execute an additional skill that deals massive electric damage.
Orpheus and Magus is the Obol Squad captain, and as a fire S-rank agent, she's the second attack specialty that will be released in the new version. Orpheus will provide support for teammates by using their special attack to aid them when they attack enemies, which grants her the resource Bottled Heat. When Bottled Heat reaches a certain threshold, this allows her to use her EX special, which allows her to fire a continuous laser attack with increases the power after a while. While firing the laser, Orpheus can parry the enemies, allowing her to become invulnerable and increasing her firepower. Furthermore, when Orpheus uses a skill that consumes bottled heat, she grants the teammates the Zeroed In state, granting them an attack boost, allowing teammates' aftershock damage to ignore a portion of enemy defense dealing aftershock damage while in this state extends its duration.
Further, the live stream teaser stated that Soldier 0 - Anby is going to be undergoing a confidential training that will allow her to unlock her true potential, hinting at the possibility that the fan favorite character will be receiving updates in future versions that will improve her combat performance.
The new version will be arriving with two new Bangboo. The S-rank Mercury is the Obol Squad will be supporting his squad by rolling into battle with a tank dealing fire damage to enemies. And the A-Rank Excaliboo, a rupture support Bangboo that swings around the legendary sacred sword, and will be available for free as a reward for completion of the version's main event Band of Brave Bangboo.

As for the banners, Seed will be arriving in the first half alongside a Trigger rerun, an electric stun agent, and a fellow member of the Obol squad. Orpheus and Magus will be arriving in the second half alongside a rerun of the fellow fire attacker, Evelyn.
The new update will also feature a bunch of new quality of life improvements, including optimizations to the Suibian Temple management, improvements to the shortcut wheel, increased collectibles limit, and many more. Additionally, two new disc drive sets for proxies to obtain.
