With Chapter 220 released on July 25, Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga has ended serialization after a 20-year run. The historical Viking drama first began serialization in April 2005 and has received praise from critics and fellow mangaka alike.

The final chapter will be included in Volume 29, due for release in Japan on September 22.

Makoto Yukimura took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his gratitude to his readers and comment on the 20-year journey.

Vinland Saga received an anime adaptation in July 2019, produced by Wit Studio and directed by Shuhei Yabuta. The second season, which began airing in January 2023, was produced by Studio MAPPA under the same director. Crunchyroll and Netflix stream the anime.

The manga has been serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine for the majority of its run, after initially debuting in Weekly Shonen Magazine. The series has been collected into 28 individual volumes and has sold over 7 million copies as of August 2022.

Kodansha USA licenses the series in English and releases the series in a two-volume omnibus format. Volume 14 was released in May 2025, comprising the Japanese volumes 27-28. Kodansha describes it as follows:

As a child, Thorfinn sat at the feet of the great Leif Ericson and thrilled to wild tales of a land far to the west. But his youthful fantasies were shattered by a mercenary raid. Raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, Thorfinn became a terrifying warrior, forever seeking to kill the band’s leader, Askeladd, and avenge his father. Sustaining Thorfinn through his ordeal are his pride in his family and his dreams of a fertile westward land, a land without war or slavery… the land Leif called Vinland.
