Though I Am an Inept Villainess Reveals Main Cast, Teaser Visual
The previously announced Though I Am an Inept Villainess anime revealed the main cast in a new promotional video and a second teaser visual earlier today. Manaka Iwami is voicing Kou Reirin, and Natsumi Kawaida is Shu Keigetsu. The anime will premiere in 2026.
Studio Doga Kobo is animating the adpatation. The staff includes:
- Director: Mitsue Yamazaki (Zenshu)
- Series Composition: Yoshiko Nakamura (Tadaima, Okaeri)
- Character Design: Ai Kikuchi (Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie)
The anime will adapt the Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court light novel written Satsuki Nakamura and illustrated by Kana Yuki. Ichijinsha has been serializing the series since 2020. There are currently nine volumes out. The same publisher is also serializing a manga adaptation by Ei Otsuji in the Comic Zero-Sum magazine.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the light novel series in English and describes the plot as:
In the Kingdom of Ei, five clans put forth their maidens as imperial consorts—but only one will be crowned empress. Just when frail and beautiful “court butterfly” Kou Reirin seems poised to marry the crown prince, jealous “court rat” Shu Keigetsu steals her body! Reirin wakes up in the dungeons as the conspirator, and things look dire…or do they? Now that she’s got a robust new body, not even the looming threat of execution can stop her!
