The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Novel by Mamoru Hosoda Announced

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time movie will be adapted into a novel by Mamoru Hosoda, the original director. The novel, titled The Girl Who Leapt Through Time: A Novel Based on the Animated Film, will be published by Kadokawa on August 29 in Japan. It will feature eight full-color pages featuring background art and scene cuts from the movie.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki o Kakeru Shoujo) movie was originally released in 2006. In addition to Hosoda, the staff also included Satoko Okudera as the scriptwriter, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto as the character designer, and Kiyoshi Yoshida as the music composer. Studio MADHOUSE was in charge of the animation. Themovie is a loose sequel to 1967 The Girl Who Leapt Through Time novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui; although the premise is similar, the story and characters are different.

The main cast included Riisa Naka as Makoto Konno, Takuya Ishida as Chiaki Mamiya, and  Mitsutaka Itakura as Kosuke Tsuda.

GKIDS is bringing The Girl Who Leapt Through Time movie to theatres in 4K this September 28-30 and describes the plot as:

Makoto is a typical teenage girl who spends most of her days slacking off with friends. One day while rushing to meet her aunt, she nearly gets hit by a train, but at the last second, finds herself jumping backwards in time to before the accident. She immediately makes use of her newfound ability to re-do every minor inconvenience– from poor exam results to awkward confessions of love. However, when faced with the consequences of tampering with time, Makoto must do everything she can to avoid a dire future that can’t be reversed.
