Review: Help! My Cat Is Summoning A Portal From Hell
Have you ever wondered what your cat was doing while you were out? Maybe stealing food? Being a bit mysterious? Or, maybe, summoning a portal straight from hell?
Well, here's Help! My Cat Is Summoning A Portal From Hell, a gothic and magical comic about a witch struggling with her job while finding ways to keep doing what she loves to do. Then, she finds an abandoned cat and takes it home. Sounds nice, right? However, this cat seems a bit suspicious... what does the cat do while she's out? There's only one way to find out, and although the title gives it away, it makes you all the more wonder about the reason behind it.
I like how, by just looking at the title of the book, it feels so interesting that you naturally theorize, and it makes you want to know more of the story. This cat wants to summon a portal to hell– WHAT!? The comic follows the secrets of what the cats do in their free time, including how her cat gathers the neighbourhood cats, forming a summoning circle to complete their wish of opening a portal to hell.

The art style of Help! My Cat Is Summoning A Portal From Hell is what intrigued me the most. The scratchy visual designs create a feeling of uncertainty, while the sand effects reflect the gothic theme, somehow representing a darker atmosphere to the story. I think the strong contrast of the black and white highlights how the cuteness masks the spooky story. I especially like the design of the cat, especially since its similar to the cat in Kiki's Delivery Service and FLCL (Furi Kuri).
I wholeheartedly recommend this 17-page comic as it is full of cuteness with a dark fantasy and gothic twist. The comic also has other merchandise, like prints, badges, and much more (I bought pins!). All high-quality and practical things that I think a cat-lover and/or a comic enthusiast will love. That said, I can't wait for more additions to the Help! My Cat Is Summoning A Portal From Hell comic.
