Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Anime to End With Original Movie

The Kaguya-sama: Love Is War anime will conclude with a final movie, as announced after the broadcast of the Stairway to Adulthood special. The movie will be a new story with an original concept by Aka Akasaka, the Kaguya-sama: Love Is War manga author.

Akasaka explained that the plan to produce a new story was decided about four years ago and that the idea was to come up with a story that no one else has seen before, rather than an adaptation of the manga.

Ever since, I've been thinking about what kind of story would be good. I wondered what kind of unnecessary additions I could make to a story that had been finished.
It was a time that was both incredibly scary and fun.
Then, one day, an idea came to mind. At that moment, I knew this was it.
At the same time, I thought, 'Wow, this must be a tough job for the animation team. I'm sure everyone is scratching their heads about being asked to take on this challenge after working on Kaguya-sama: Love is War for about eight years, but since this is probably the last time, I believe they'll forgive me if I ask a few crazy questions.' I have that much trust in this team. It's new, yet nostalgic. I hope to deliver this completely new, and perhaps the very last, Kaguya-sama.

The Stairway to Adulthood special is now streaming on Crunchyroll in a two-episode format. Like the previous installments of the anime, it was animated by studio A-1 Pictures.
