Junji Ito Inducted Into Eisner Hall of Fame
Legendary horror mangaka Junji Ito has been inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 on the 25th of July. With over 10 million books sold worldwide, Ito is one of the best-known mangaka of today and a top-known name in the world of horror.
It was also confirmed that Ito's Moan: Junji Ito Story Collection, a 272-page collection, will be released on October 7 by Viz Media under the Viz Signature imprint. The collection features six spooky tales and is available to preorder.
Junji Ito debuted in February of 1987 with Tomie, who will go on to become on of his most popular characters. This manga was originally published in the Monthly Halloween, quickly became a fan favorite, and later a staple of his first anthology, titled Long Hair in the Attic, released in Febuary 1990.
The mangaka won four Eisner Awards. In 2019, his collection Frankenstein won in the “Best Adaptation from Another Medium” category, and in 2021, he was awarded “Best Writer/Artist,” while Remina received the award for “Best U.S. Edition of International Material (Asia).” Lovesickness won “Best U.S. Edition” in 2022. Ito is also the first international creator to win the "Best Writer/Artist" category.

Ito's works have been adapted to anime over the years. The most recent adaptation was Uzumaki. At this year's Japan Expo, a new anthology series, titled Junji Ito Crimson, was also announced.
