Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Spin-Off Manga Launches

#news #manga September 07, 2025

The Jujutsu Kaisen series is continuing with a "near-future" spin-off manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, by Gege Akutami, the original mangaka in charge of the story, and Yuji Iwasaki, who is doing the art. In Japan, the manga began serialization in this week's issue of the Weekly Shonen Jump (#41/2025) magazine.

In English, the manga is available on VIZ Media's Jump app and on the Manga PLUS platform, which describes the plot:

It's been 68 years since the Culling Game. In 2086, an alien race known as the Simurians arrive on Earth in a spaceship. The fate of the world lies in the hands of two jujutsu sorcerers Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu. Jujutsu sorcerers and aliens, what chaos will be born from this meeting?

Gege Akutami commented on the new serialization, stating that it is expected to run for about six months (three volumes):
While Jujutsu Kaisen (hereafter referred to as Jujutsu) was being serialized, I had been approached about a Jujutsu spin-off written by someone other than myself, but I was afraid that the name of the work would be revealed in a medium like manga, which I could not control, so I was unable to accept the offer at the time. However, that offer gave me the opportunity to think of various ideas, such as expanding on this part of the main story, delving into this setting, changing the time period, or even setting it in a parallel world.
Modulo, which was the most unexpected idea at the concept stage, came to fruition after a series of meetings.
It's a short, intense series. I'll be working on it for about six months (if it's not canceled). About three volumes.
The illustrations are by the renowned Yuji Iwasaki (title omitted)!! Amazing!! Skillful!! Beautiful!!
I hope you enjoy Modulo as a new introduction to Jujutsu.

Yuji Iwasaki, known as the artist behind Cipher Academy, also commented:
Hello, I'm Iwasaki!
As an illustrator, I'm very honored to have been asked to do this. When I received the offer from Akutami-sensei through my editor, I was happy, but when I saw the storyboard he sent me, I was more worried about whether I was the right person for the job. I'm still nervous as I draw, but I'll do my best to deliver a new story to Jujutsu fans and those who have never read Jujutsu Kaisen! I'm also looking forward to it as a reader!
Since they've kindly asked me, I'll try to draw without hesitation and in my own style!
It's a short period of time, but I hope you'll enjoy it!
