Honkai: Star Rail Reveals April 22 Release Date for Anniversary Patch, MAPPA-Animated Concept Trailer

The long-awaited anniversary patch of Honkai: Star Rail is set to be released on April 22, 2026. Version 4.2, also known as "So Laughed the Masses," will feature the continuation of the Phantasmoon Games as the Trailblazer and Express Crew dive deeper into the chaos of Planarcadia. There will also be the introduction of two limited 5-star characters - Silver Wolf LV.999, followed by Evanescia in the latter part of the patch.

The Phantasmoon Games continue to get even wackier and a whole lot more complicated with the announcement of a surprise escalation to the prize of the event; the winner will now become a permanent Aeon of Elation. The Trailblazer is then faced with a new character, Fulwish - the leader of the Research Society of Happy Smiles, who also happens to be a local media star. Fulwish wants to host a debate show in the holiday resort, Seafield City, featuring the Trailblazer to uncover the burning questions of the citizens of all Arcadia.

The New Characters: Silver Wolf Lv.999 and Evanescia

With this patch, familiar Stellaron Hunter Silver Wolf gets a new sparkly makeover in her 5-star Emanator of Elation path Silver Wolf LV.999. She shows off her max gaming evolution as an imaginary character following the path of Elation. To begin, she racks up "Hidden MMR" to help activate her exclusive gaming cartridge and enter her "Godmode Player" state. Once this mode is active, she brings everyone on the board into her own domain. Doing this will unlock a "Reward stage" when beginning her turn, where she can use this special cartridge to bring in buffs to help her team. Silver Wolf brings in the big DMG when she reaches an "Aha Instant," where she'll summon a laser cannon to knock out all her enemies. The Stellaron Hacker doesn't shy away from taking control of the battlefield, and this special path showcases her ability to reach "Godmode."

In the second half, we have the introduction of Evanescia, a mysterious girl who has always been seen to act in a more observer role in the Phantasmoon Games, perhaps even more than one of these events. She follows the Path of Elation and will be a 5-star Physical character. When in battle, she can continuously increase her "Certified Banger" will will allow her to regenerate energy and therefore allow her to maintain her DMG pattern. Her "Master Fox" can also deal a follow-up attack to all enemies on the field once a target point is hit. As she increases her "Certified Banger" passive, she will also gradually increase her overall damage. Her skill is an AOE attack towards all enemies and will increase the team's DMG. As this mysterious observer takes to the sidelines, she will be watching the Trailblazer throughout the performance and waits patiently for the conclusion to this game.

Trailblazer will be receiving the long-awaited upgrade for the Path of Elation, sporting a new weapon: a pair of glowsticks. In a fight, these sticks have many uses, beginning with the skill where they will transform themselves into a design mimicking a lightsaber, where the Trailblazer will deal damage and increase their "Certified Banger" score. The second form is a pair of nunchucks that will release a barrage of attacks on surrounding enemies. These glowsticks become the beacon of support for your team. When using the ultimate, the Trailblazer can select a teammate to receive an increase of the "Certified Banger" points.

In addition, there will be further reruns of previous banners. The first half features The Dahlia, Castorice, and Firefly, followed by Tribbie, Sunday, and Feixiao in the latter half. Hoyoverse has also announced that Firely, Huohuo, Seele, and Welt will be receiving buffs to help with fans on their trailblazing journey.

Currency Wars will be getting an expansion, which will give players more diverse gameplay options. With this version, there will be the introduction of a new event in "Cosmic Data Roaming", where Trailblazers will be able to begin their streaming career by sharing their most iconic moments to help build their reputation. Rounding off the events, "Cosmicon, Roll On Again" will be gaining a version 2.0 to add new decks and dice, alongside a team challenge mode.

Anniversary Rewards

In celebration of this patch, Hoyoverse wanted to give a wide range of rewards for the trailblazers to claim, alongside releasing a special illustration showcasing some of the different emanators we've encountered during the storyline. Trailblazers will be welcomed in with an anniversary exclusive "Festive Gifts", where they can claim 20 pulls on entry. A returning favourite event will also be present; players will be able to select a blessing card from one of the game characters in addition to receiving 1,600 Stellar Jades. Both Robin and Huohuo will be added to the "Stellar Convergence" store, where fans can use their freely claimed companion spirit in exchange for a limited 5-star. Castorice will also be receiving a new outfit for Trailblazers to obtain.

During the anniversary, you will be able to participate in "Aha's Chosen: Spreading Elation Everywhere" online event, where you will leave a message for a chance to win numerous prizes. MAPPA x Honkai: Star Rail

The final exciting release of this anniversary patch is a concept animation collaboration between Honkai: Star Rail (Hoyoverse) and MAPPA. "Death in the
Afternoon" is available to watch on the official accounts of the game. This animation was initially showcased at the end of the update livestream on April 10th 2026.
