The Code Geass project is getting a new anime, announced earlier today with a teaser visual and staff. Titled Code Geass: Hoshioi no Aspar (Aspar, the Star Chaser), the new animated series doesn't have a release date.

Kazuya Nomura (Moriarty the Patriot) is directing the new Code Geass anime. Mado Nozaki (Kado: The Right Answer) is in charge of the series composition. Roula is credited with the character designs.

The new anime is the latest installment in a franchise that started with Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, an original anime series by studio Sunrise. Goro Taniguchi directed it, while Ichiro Okouchi wrote the script. The CLAMP group did the original character designs. The first season aired from October 2006 to July 2007 and had 25 episodes. The sequel, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, aired from April 2008 to September 2008. It had 25 episodes. The franchise includes multiple OVA side stories, including the five-episode Code Geass: Akito the Exiled.

The previous installment, Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture anime, was released in 2024 and is set after the events of the Initiation, Transgression, and Glorification movie trilogy. These three were an alternative retelling of the original anime and were followed by another movie, titled Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, released in 2019. Rozé of the Recapture is getting a TV broadcast in Japan.

The franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
