Abe started out the panel by explaining how he wanted to make something for all anime fans, including the younger generations who have never been exposed to Ghost in the Shell before, and they approached Science SARU in this process to create "the new beginning of GitS."

Kohei Sakita, Science SARU producer, explained how Mokochan was chosen as the director for the project. According to Sakita, they wanted to ask either Fuuga Yamashiro (DAN DA DAN) or Mokochan to direct the anime, but Yamashiro gave a strong recommendation for Mokochan. Abe said he's never met anyone like Mokochan. Katsurada explained that every director of different parts of the franchise so far has picked up their favorite thing from the manga and interpreted it differently.

When it comes to Toh EnJoe, who is in charge of the series composition for the new project, Sakita said that he has been paying close attention to his work ever since Godzilla SP. Abe added that he thinks that Toh EnJoe and Masamune Shirow share a similar worldview and that he has never met someone with such a deep understanding of the original manga. Katsurada jokingly added that EnJoe might know more about GitS franchise than than Shirow.

The Anime Expo 2025 stage also brought some production updates for The Ghost in the Shell anime. According to the panelists, the scripts are almost done, storyboards and animation are currently in progress. Editing and post-recording are also set to start soon.

During this panel, the anime revealed a new visual with an updated logo and a second teaser trailer. The new logo is the work of Japanese illustrator Hajime Sorayama. The new anime is slated to premiere in 2026.
