Aoi Yuki and Emiri Kato Share Puella Magi Madoka Magica Updates at Aniplex Online Fest 2025
The Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise had a dedicated segment at today's Aniplex Online Fest. Aoi Yuki, who voices Madoka Kaname, and Emiri Kato, who voices Kyubey, delivered new information and fun facts about the upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magic The Movie Part 1: Beginnings / Part 2: Eternal TV Edition and the Walpurgisnacht: Rising movie.
The TV version of the Beginnings and Eternal movies is slated to begin this October and will serve as an introduction for the upcoming movie. Additionally, ClariS will be returning to make a new song, "Links," for the series, after having performed the iconic "Connect," "Luminous," and "Colorful." ClariS will be performing this song live for the first time on November 8 at the Animate Girls Festival 2025.
Yuki and Kato reflected on their roles, describing how their impressions have changed over the years. Yuki states that she used to relate to Madoka more when she was younger, but now she finds Homura closer. She also added how she thinks that Homura is actually the main character, and because Madoka is the center of her world, the title reflects that.
Speaking about Kyubey, both voice actresses want to believe that there are people who now relate to its point of view more, because Kyubey is driven by the big picture that aligns with its moral compass. Kato laughingly added that not much has changed when it comes to Kyubey, and it still "sees the girls as a source of nutrients."
The recording for the Walpurgisnacht: Rising movie is set to start soon, and they showed off the script cover and asked the audience if they could guess who the movie will be about. Both are looking forward to the final version and recommend watching the TV edition because it will feature commentary by comedian Eiko Kano, who will be seeing the series for the first time. Yuki stated that she is a fan of his work and she wishes she could also watch it for the first time again, just to see his reactions.
The official stills from the first season of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica will soon be available to download from the official website. The stills from the movies will also be added in the future.
Kato also added that they were very happy to see everyone's reactions online when the movie was announced and invited everyone to come see the movie once it is out in February 2026.
Studio SHAFT is animating the movie with Akiyuki Shinbo as the chief director, Yukihiro Miyamoto as the director. Junichiro Taniguchi is doing the character designs.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra will also host a half-year anniversary on September 28, where the newest development updates will be shared.
